The Link Between Miscarriage & Minerals

If you’ve experienced the heartbreak of miscarriage—especially more than once—my heart is with you.
You’ve likely been told, “Your labs look normal—just keep trying.” Or worse, you can’t do any further testing until you’ve had at least three miscarriages (which we feel is barbaric).

But deep down, you know something’s not adding up.
And you’re right to keep asking questions.

Here’s what many fertility specialists aren’t looking at:
Mineral status.
Specifically, how your body’s reserves of calcium, magnesium, copper, sodium, and iodine play a foundational role in conception, hormone balance, thyroid function, and maintaining a healthy pregnancy.

The Connection Between Minerals & Miscarriage

Calcium + magnesium regulate your nervous system and hormone signaling. When these are low, your body can stay stuck in survival mode, making conception and implantation harder.

Copper is critical for developing blood vessels and supporting the placenta in early pregnancy. Both high and low levels of copper can contribute to miscarriage.

Sodium + potassium are your hydration minerals. They help maintain blood volume, support the uterus, and allow nutrients to actually reach the baby.

Iodine is one of the most overlooked yet essential nutrients in early pregnancy. It supports the thyroid—a key hormone-regulating gland—and is vital for fetal brain and organ development. Deficiency in iodine is directly linked to increased miscarriage risk and implantation failure. I talk more about iodine in this blog post. 

And here’s the catch:
Many women are unknowingly low in iodine, especially after years of avoiding iodized salt, eating low sodium, or dealing with thyroid imbalances like Hashimoto’s.

The good news?
You can rebuild. You can restore.
We’ve seen this over and over with our clients.
